Horse Around New Mexico Welcomes Submissions
Horse Around New Mexico, an equestrian lifestyle magazine, welcomes submissions for 6 issues in 2016. We’re interested in compelling, well-crafted writing on any horse-related theme. There are no limitations based on discipline, riding style or writing genre. Well researched, feature-length articles are welcome as are shorter pieces on tack, equine health, rider safety, etc. We’ll consider short stories, training tips, trail descriptions, club news or other great ideas. Here are some suggestions:
• Equine health
• Articles focused on a certain discipline (endurance, competitive trail, dressage, hunter/jumper, western pleasure, eventing, barrel racing, to name a few)
• Detailed descriptions of trails and trail-rides in your area
• Information on tack and gear
• Equestrian-related news
• Events for the events calendar (New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Colorado)
• Local club news items (for clubs located in all regions of New Mexico)
Electronic submissions only. Please send your submission as an attachment to an e-mail; MS Word documents are preferred. CD/DVD submissions are also acceptable; include SASE with sufficient postage if you’d like your CD/DVD to be returned.
Quality, well-crafted writing is a must. 500-1500 words preferred, but we’ll consider length within the context of the writing (an article might go to 2500 words; while haiku is much shorter than 500). Our target audience consists of adult, open-minded, curious, well-informed New Mexico horse owners. From the first-time adult horse owner to the professional trainer, backyard dressage to competitive trail, Horse Around NM provides articles to inform, stimulate and engage our readers on all levels.
Endorsement of a specific organization, to the exclusion of other similar organizations, will not be accepted in an article, in order to maintain a firm line between “editorial” and “advertorial” content. For advertorial content, please see the advertising page.
Photographs, either stand-alone or to enhance the submitted article, are most welcome. Please provide accurate information for proper photo/illustration credit. We do not accept simultaneous submissions; please allow up to 1 month for us to respond to your submission.
Please provide photos/artwork at at least 300 dpi.
We wish we could pay everyone; but the truth is, we can’t. As a small, start-up magazine that is free to all takers, we hope to “break even”. Ad revenue is the primary source of income for Horse Around NM …and we certainly hope that in the months to come, that revenue will prove enough so that we can pay our contributors what they deserve. Until then, we’re thinking that exposing your work to readers throughout New Mexico might be worth something — and of course we’ll send you a few copies!
